Emily Lam-Ho

Serial Entrepreneur

Emily Lam-Ho is no stranger to the pages of Hong Kong’s glossy magazines – she’s starred on two Prestige covers in the last few years and has also proudly been a member of our Women of Power initiative since its inception. And rightly so.

Sustainability and empowerment are at the core of everything Lam-Ho does. She’s founded three platforms that address environmental issues. The first two she started in 2018: Empact28 is an investment company providing funding for women entrepreneurs and corporations that make a positive impact on social and environmental issues, while EcoDrive is a charity she co-founded alongside 11 other women, all self-starters, professionals and mothers united by the mission to reduce single-use plastics in the city. Today, EcoDrive organises annual citywide marketing campaigns promoting green awareness.

“I was one of the earlier ones in Hong Kong to start talking about our environmental problems,” says Lam-Ho. “I’m trying to tackle the problem at its roots by promoting a change in our lifestyle. I’m also working with a group of like-minded ladies at EcoDrive, and pulling in all our resources and networks in Hong Kong to cast the largest net, so we can all be more green-conscious every day.”

Lam-Ho once told Prestige that “starting small is very important. Every little bit counts.” This is how 8Shades, her most recent venture, came into being. She realised people often become intimidated with eco campaigns and sustainability drives. With 8Shades, a purpose-driven modern lifestyle and wellness platform that inspires sustainability across culture, fashion, health and wellness, Lam-Ho hopes to change consumption habits one small step at a time. 8Shades doesn’t discriminate about where you are on your sustainability journey: whether you’re light green or dark green, the most important thing is that you’re contributing towards a better world.

“Be the change you want wish to see in the world” is her personal motto. And to that end, the mum-of-two is also busy writing a children’s book, with hopes that it’ll inspire the next generation.
