Tommie Lo

Founder, Preface

Tommie Lo founded the global tech-training company Preface with the motto, “There isn’t a thing that can’t be learned.” His passion for education and technology has driven him to search for solutions that fill the gaps within traditional learning systems and, using the power of AI and machine learning, his scalable platform democratises access to tech literacy and coding skills through personalised programmes. Matching students with experienced instructors around the world and customised course materials, Preface leans on data insights to demonstrate real-world applications for code writing.

“The world has progressed at a speed that traditional teaching methods have failed to match,” Lo explains. “With an evolved approach to education, we hope to empower individuals from different walks of life to excel in the digital age.”

Recently, the company pioneered the development of a Web3 education infrastructure for content building, validation, and credential verification. The project is an ambitious collaboration with leading companies in various sectors, ranging from banking, hedge funds and luxury retail to real estate and technology. The team is also building a video studio that produces up-to-date and easily accessible technology content. Operating worldwide with locations in Hong Kong, London, Singapore and Tokyo, Preface became the first Asian organisation to receive the EdTechX Global Award in 2018.

With extensive experience in data science, AI, full-stack web development and machine learning, Lo is one of Preface’s leading educators; he’s also taught at academic institutions that include MIT, UCLA and LSE, as well as for multinationals such as Meta, Google, AWS, BlackRock and HSBC.

Within five years, the tech wizard, who once worked on Barack Obama’s campaign team, hopes to expand Preface into the world’s largest technology-learning platform. “I see myself not only leading this vision but also as an active consumer of our innovative offerings,” he says. “As a continuous learner, I’m excited to grow alongside our company and contribute to its mission of transforming lives through education.”
